“W. S. GREEN PASSED AWAY SUNDAY: FUNERAL TAKES PLACE THIS AFTERNOON AT 3 O’CLOCK. REV. O. B. CHESTER WILL CONDUCT THE SERVICE. // W. S. GREEN, aged 50 [?] years, died at his residence, 419 Twelfth street, yesterday at 12 o’clock, after an illness of six weeks with acute softening of the brain. // Mr. GREEN was the grandson of the late Nathan GREEN, of Tennessee, and of Charles RODGERS, of this city. He was born in this county on the 21st of November 1854, and lived near Midland until 1885, when he moved to Columbus and went into the real estate business, in which he was engaged at the time of his death. // He was very prominent in the business life of the city and has made a large number of friends since coming to Columbus. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Alice GREEN, and one sister, Mrs. J[oseph] L. BARNES [sic – BOND], of Midland. // The funeral will take place this afternoon from the late residence at 3 o’clock. Rev. O. B. CHESTER will conduct the services and the interment will be in Linwood cemetery.” [Columbus (GA) Ledger newspaper, Sunday, 05 OCT 1913, p. 15. The recap of the funeral, appearing in the issue for Tuesday, 07 OCT 1913, p. 3, mentions that the pallbearers were J. B. HILL, W. H. McCRORY, C. J. EDGE, L. M. HAUSER, W. H. H. BLANKENSHIP and Charlies [sic] ALLEN, and the honorary pallbearers were John BLACKMAR, J. C. ALEXANDER, L[ucius] H. CHAPPELL and A. L. JENKINS.]

GREEN, married male, born in Georgia, died aged 59 years at 419 Twelfth Street [Columbus, Georgia] of softening of the brain; buried 05 OCT 1913 in Section C, Lot 409, by undertaker [Charlton Lafayette] TORBETT, reference local death certificate #4028 – Sexton Emory JEFFERSON.
