F. F. PATTON DIES; Retired Executive

Francis F. Patton, 74, a former Rancho Santa Fe and La Jolla resident and a retired investment banking executive nationally known in the securities field, died yesterday at his apartment in Chicago.
Patton, a native of Grand Rapids, Mich., moved to this area shortly after retiring in 1948 as vice president of A.G. Becker & Co., Chicago, a position he filled 28 years.
For a short time, starting in 1951, Patton was an account executive in the La Jolla sales office of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith.

HEADED BOND GROUP
In 1955, Patton served as volunteer chairman of the countywide savings bond investment committee in the Treasury Department's savings bond program here. He returned to Chicago in 1957.
After graduating from Phillips Andover Academy, Andover, Mass., and attending the University of Chicago, Patton entered the investment banking business in 1912. He sold investment bonds in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan before becoming manager of the Cincinnati office of Halsey Stuart & Co.
Patton was a former vice president of the Investment Bankers Association and the National Association of Securities Dealers. He had been an associate member of the New York Stock and New York Curb exchanges and a governor of the Chicago (now Midwest) Stock Exchange.

CHARTER MEMBER
A past presidet of the Bond Club of Chicago, he also was a charter member of the San Diego Bond Club. In 1946, he was national president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, which he had previously served as national treasurer.
Patton was a first lieutenant in the Army during World War I. He is survived by a son, Richard E. Patton of La Jolla, a daughter, Mrs. Ray Palange of Los Gatos, and 5 grandchildren.
