Frederick Walter Modesitt, 77 of 2600 Crawford St. died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday in Union Hospital. He was retired communications supervisor at Indiana State University. He was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Brazil to James Alman Modesitt and Rose Lee Geiser Modesitt. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Weisbach Modesitt; one daughter, Melinda G. Modesitt of Kenosha, Wis; three sons, Raymond H. of Terre Haute, Jon F. of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. and Terrence R. of Chicago; three sisters, Ruth Baugh of Daytona Beach, Fla., Martha Hanna of Greenwood and Irene Carle of Chico, Calif; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was a retired equipment supervisor at General Telephone Co., 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 573 Free and Accepted Masons, an ISU Emeritus and a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Scottish Rite, Zorah Shrine, Oriental Band, Elks Lodge 86, Sycamore Club, American Association of Retired Persons, Rose-Hulman Alumnae Association and Telephone Pioneers of America. Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday in Callahan Funeral Home East Chapel, with the Rev. John Chironna officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with Lodge 573 services at 7.
