Eugene Edward Beard, 74, of Springfield died Friday at St. John's Hospital.
He was born Dec. 31, 1923, in Casey Creek, Ky., the son of Beckham and Myrtle Bailey Beard. He married Eileen E. Bergen on Aug. 14, 1947. Mr. Beard retired from the state of Illinois, having served as an engineer with the Governor's office. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II, and a member of St. Paul's Lodge 500 AF&AM.
Survivors: wife, Eileen; a son, Larry G. Beard of Springfield; three grandchildren; and a brother, Oscar Beard of Lincoln.
Remains will be cremated.
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, the Rev. Warren Wilkewitz officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery.
