Margaret Shoots was born June 4, 1911 in Scammon, KS. At age 11, she moved with her parents, Richard A. and Elizabeth M (Holman) Helman, to Columbus.
She attended Columbus school s and graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in 1929.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbus, and was a life member of Pursel Chapter # 110 Order of the Eastern Star of which she was a Past Matron.. She was also a charter member of Coterie Club, Columbus, KS.
She worked twenty years in the business office of Maude Norton Memorial Hospital, Columbus, KS. Upon retiring in 1972, she assisted in organizing the hospital auxiliary known then as the Pink Ladies, and served as its first president
She was married to Robert Shoots June, 1961 in Columbus. He preceded her in death in March, 1989.
Surviving is one son, James (wife, Jacque) Benham, Carl Junction, MO; two granddaughters, Lori Benham, Springfield, MO, and Kammi Benham Grosse (husband, Greg) , Ozark, MO; three great-grandchildren, Jaclynne Grosse, Katelyn Grosse, and Erin Benham; and one special cousin, Dick Holman, Las Cruces, NM.
Margaret requested to be cremated under the care of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. \
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, Columbus, KS. Rev. Susan Rosenbaum will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church or to the Hosey Hill Cemetery Fund.
