As a child, Lloyd accompanied his mother to Houston, Texas. Later, Lloyd joined the US Army Air Service in Texas during World War I and, much to his disappointment, served his entire enlistment (1917-1919) as a cook near Houston.
About 1917, Lloyd married Annie Browning in Texas. The marriage was short-lived, and the couple was divorced in early 1918.
On 19 September, 1919, Lloyd married Lula Lindsey in Breckinridge, Stephens County, Texas. Lula, the daughter of William Pennington and Temperance Louisa Browning Lindsey, was born in Breckinridge, Texas until 1939, whenn they moved to the vicinity of Corpus Christi, along the Texas Gulf Coast. They lived near Corpus Christi for the remainder of their lives, with the exception of a three-year stay near Rising Star, Eastland County, Texas from 1944 until 1947.
Lloyd was employed as an airplane mechanic for some years in Corpus Christi. He was also a farmer and an auto mechanic. Seven children were born to Lloyd Francis and Lula Lindsey Combest.
Lloyd Combest died 1 January, 1963 in Aransas Pass, San Patricio County, Texas and Lula Combest died 7 October 1969. Both are buried in Prairie View Cemetery near Aransas Pass, Texas.
