Lafayette Man Dies; Funeral Is Held Today
John R. Fortune, aged 78, resident of West Lafayette, died at his home at 6:40 p.m. Thursday of complications of diseases. He had been ill a year.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the West Lafayette Methodist Church, in charge of Rev. George W. Boyd. The body was removed to the Glass Funeral Home, Coshocton, where it may be viewed tonight.
Saturday, the body will be sent to Dallas, IA where funeral services will be held at the home of a son, Lawrence D. Fortune. Burial will be at Dallas where Fortune lived until 1922, when he remarried and moved to West Lafayette.
Mr. Fortune, who was born April 3, 1854, at Big Run, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fortune married Emma Shumaker, who died in 1920.
Mr. Fortune lived many years in Iowa. He returned to Ohio in 1922 and married the former Rilla D. Still who survives. Mrs. Fortune and Mr. and Mrs. I.N. Still of Dennison will accompany the body to Dallas Saturday.
In addition to the widow and the son at Dallas, Mr. Fortune leaves three grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
