Both Conrad and Victor died in the sinking of the Schooner Jane Gray off Cape Flattery in 1898. A year later in 1899, six year old George Mercer died. Caroline attended the University for two years before her first marriage to Fred Lewis Renich. Caroline was later married to dentist Vivian B. Shaw and when she died, she was the widow of Charles Park. Caroline did not have children. She died in Phoenix, Arizona and was returned to be buried in the family plot in Seattle, Washington.
