CPO Ret. Cecil Wood Woolverton, 84 passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009, in Frisco, TX. Cecil was the youngest child born to Jesse Claude Woolverton and Alberta Wood Woolverton in Stephenville, Erath County Texas on May 24, 1924. He entered the US Navy on March 30, 1942 serving for 22 years earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Specialty Jet Mechanics. He served during World War II, the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Valley Forge, and Vietnam. He served on several ships based out of San Diego, CA, Kingsville, TX, and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on April 13, 1964 then retired from Kimberly-Clark, June 30, 1989 in Memphis, TN. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 153 in Memphis, TN, a lifetime VFW member attending the Frisco VFW Post 8273 and active in the American Legion Plano Post 321. In May 2008, Cecil was recognized for 60 years of continuous membership loyalty, protection, and service to fellow shipmates in the Fleet Reserve Association. Cecil married Juanita Lavada Lawyer on July 2, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2002 after 52 years of marriage. His parents, four sisters, and two brothers also preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Lavada Woolverton of Frisco, TX; a son, Michael Cecil Woolverton of Memphis, TN; a sister Lois Woolverton Bennett Norris of Dallas, TX, several nieces and nephews, and many friends at the Lodge on Preston Ridge where he resided until his death. A memorial service was held February 28, at the Lodge on Preston Ridge, Frisco, Tx. (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN on 3/1/2009)
