Herman Fisher, 96, Died Yesterday at Home at Auburn

One of Oldest Residents of County Dies; Rites Still Pending

Herman W. Fisher (Hermann W Fischer) Sr., 96 a resident of Walsh county and recognized as one of the oldest residents of this area, died late yesterday afternoon at his home at Auburn. Mr. Fisher who had been active up until a few days agom died unexpectedly after shaving himself.

Mr. Fisher was born in Pomerania, German, Dec. 27, 1855. He married Wilhelmina Schenck, a childhood sweetheart in 1881, and the couple came to the United States on their honeymoon. Stopping at Detroit, Mich., he carried on harness making trade and later came to Grafton where he was engaged in the same occupation. He then turned to farming and rented the Sam Lemon farm north of Auburn. Later he purchased a farm in the area, including what is now the town site of Auburn. From 1901 until after Mrs. Fisher's death in 1934, the couple resided in Auburn, raising a family of eight children, four girls and four boys. In 1931 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Since Mrs. Fisher's death he made his home with his sone-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Fay at Auburn.

Survivors are six children. They are Mr. and Mrs. Fay; Mrs. May Scott, Grafton; Herman W. Jr. and Edward, both of Grafton; Henry E. of Auburn and Mrs. Fred Duvall (Douville) of Robbinsdale, Minn. Also surviving is a brother, Frank Fisher whose address is unknown.
