Catherine Ann Sutherland, eldest dau. of Lawrence Sutherland and Antje (i.e., Ann) van Houten. Through her mother Catherine was an 8th generation descendant of the Blauvelt family's immigrant Dutch ancestor, Gerrit Hendrickszen, through Gerrit's son Huybert Blauvelt. Catherine was b. May 8, 1830 (g.s.) at Rockland County, NY and d. July 4, 1867 at Suffern, NY.

On Dec. 30, 1852, Catherine m. Henry Rehling, Jr., b. Feb. 14, 1816 at Prussia and d. April 26, 1895 at Suffern, NY. The June 1855 state census of Rockland County, NY says Henry had been residing in the county for 11 years, indicating he immigrated circa 1844. A summary of their children is in their father's memorial.
