The Rev. William John Hamilton was the son of Charles M. Hamilton (1838-1902) (a Civil War Union Veteran) and Martha Ann E. Parr Jones (1845-1929), who married 12 Mar 1876 at Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri.

William married Mae Julia Fallon (1886-1955) on 26 Dec 1906 at Albion, Monroe County, Iowa. William became a Methodist Minister and the family lived in Iowa (where all eight of their children were born) before moving to Oregon. In 1920 the family lived on Main Street at Lovilia, Monroe County, Iowa with William listed as a Methodist Minister and the first seven children.

Rev. Hamilton preached his last sermon at the Lineville Methodist Church, at Lineville, Wayne County, Iowa in August, 1939 and then moved with his family to Oregon.

William and Mae were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Edythe Anna Hamilton (1908-2002)
2. John Wesley Hamilton (1909-1982)
3. Earle George Hamilton (1911-1971)
4. Pearl Julia Hamilton Barger Niederloh (1911-1995)
5. Laurence Axline Shepherd Hamilton (1914-1967)
6. Glenn Charles Hamilton (1916-1990)
7. Esther Mae Hamilton Hart (1918-1978)
8. Leona Martha Hamilton (1920-1921)
