Wilmington, Oct. 19. — In the death of Mrs. Eliza M. Bellamy, at her home on Market street yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at the age of 87 years, Wilmington loses its oldest native-born white resident and a most estimable woman. Mrs. Bellamy had been in poor health for some time and her death was not unexpected. She was the widow of the late Dr. John D. Bellamy, who preceded her to the grave in 1896 at the age of 80 years, and the mother of John D. Bellamy, Marsden Bellamny, Sr., Dr. William J. H. Bellamy, George H. Bellamy, Esq., of Brunswick, and Misses Ellen and Eliza Bellamy, with whom Mrs. Bellamy resided at her stately home on the northeast corner of Fifth and Market streets. Mrs. Bellamy was a woman of rare culture. She was educated at Pittsboro and in New Haven, Conn., being especially Interested in botany, in which sho was especially proficient. In addition to the relatives named, the deceased is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Andrew J. Howell, Sr., and Miss Mittie Harris of Wilmington. All members of the family were with her when she passed away. The funeral was conducted from the residence at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon by Rev. J. M. Wells, D. D., of the First Presbyterian church of which Mrs. Bellamy was the oldest and most consistent member. The remains were laid to rest in beautiful Oakdale Cemetery.
