Howard Bennett

A Sterling Casting retiree, Howard Bennett Jr., 67, of rural Bluffton, died at 1:35 a.m. today at Community Care Center following a four-month illness with cancer.

A son of Howard Guy and Zella Long Bennett, he was born April 14, 1925 in Wells county.

Mr. Bennett retired from Sterling Casting after 40 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and American Legion Post 111. He was a life-time resident of Wells county and a U.S. Army verteran of World War II.

Surviving are a son, Howard "Howdy" Bennett of Bluffton; a daughter Mrs. Lyle (Michele) Lightle of Marion; three sisters, Mrs.Robert (Ellen "Beanie") Guthrie of Bluffton, and Mrs. James (Delenia) Peeper and Sue Bennett, both of Florida; two brothers, Wayne Bennett of Florida, and Kaye "Bud" Bennett of Bluffton; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Friens may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Thoma-Rich Funeral Home, where rites will be conducted by Rev. David Hedrick at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with American Legion Post 111 in charge of graveside services.
