Emma Navida Fry was born in *Frytown, Iowa on December 19, 1852 to Jacob Fry and Leticia Harris.

She married James Henry Evans on April 9, 1869, in Crawford County, Kansas. They had six children in 22 years: Olive May, Blanche Annette, George Edgar, Frank Otis, Jesse Glen and Charles Dana.

After James's death in 1924, Emma lived with her daughter Blanche, first in Kalona, Iowa and then in Iowa City.

She died in Iowa City on September 29, 1941, at the age of 88.

*The town has been known as Frytown since the early 19th century, and is listed as such on state maps, but the USGS refers to it as Williamstown.

MRS EVANS DIES MONDAY
Dies In Local Hospital Monday Night After Short Illness
Mrs. Emma Evans, 88, 1110 Kirkwood Avenue, died at 9:50 o'clock Monday night in a local hospital after a short illness.
Emma Fry, the daughter of Jacob and Lettie Fry, was born December 19, 1852 at Frytown. When she was 16 years old she moved with her parents to Monmouth, Kan.
In Monmouth she married James H. Evans and they resided there until 1924 when he died. She then returned to Iowa and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Adams, in Kalona, who later moved to 1110 Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the Christian Church of Monmouth.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Blanche Adams of Iowa City; three brothers (sic), G.E. Evans of Cheyenne, Wyo., J.G. Evans of McCune, Kan., and C. Dana Evans of Oklahoma City, Okla., and 21 grandchildren.
The body will be sent this evening to Monmouth, Kan., where the funeral service and burial will take place Thursday.
