Lemuel's obituary appeared in the December 27, 1984 issue of the Suffolk News-Herald, Suffolk, Virginia:

"Lemuel Darden

Lemuel F. Jack Darden, 87, of 2556 Pruden Blvd., died early today in a hospital. A native of Nansemond County. He was the husband of the late Pearl Underwood Darden, and son of the late F. Darden and Emma Gayle Darden.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II, the retired owner of Darden and Sons Farm Supply, a member of Suffolk Christian Church, the Baraca Class of the church, American Legion Post No. 57, and Isaac Walton League, and the Civitan Club.

Survivors include two sons, James F. Darden and David A. Darden, both of Suffolk; one brother, Floyd Darden of Crittenden; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be on Friday at 1 p.m. by the graveside in Holy Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Robert B. Marr. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hill Underwood Funeral Home. The family will be at David A. Darden's home, 2556 Pruden Blvd. Hill Underwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements."
