Corporal Edward James Burgess was the son of William and Clara Burgess, and the husband of Nellie Burgess, of Cherry Tree, Blackburn, Lancashire.
He served with 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Battalion and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy, during Operation Overlord on 5-6 June 1944.
Corporal Burgess died on 6 June 1944, aged 27 years old. He is now buried at Herouvillette New Communal Cemetery, Herouvillette, near Caen, Normandy.
