ROSSVILLE --- Francis E. Davis, 84, Rossville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at his home, with his two daughters by his side.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1920, at Rossville, on the south side of the Mulvane Ranch, the son of Marion and Josephine Wells Davis.

He was reared in West Liberty, Ky., as a young child, and moved to the Rossville area in 1936. He worked as a farm hand around Rossville, until he took the position of managing and operating the Mulvane ranch from 1952 until 1981. He was known as one of the finest cattlemen in the state of Kansas.

He married Donice Ione Marney on Aug. 23, 1940, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 1977. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Stanley A. Davis, and his half-brother, Ted Elkins.

He was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and the American Quarter Horse Association from 1952 until his death.

He married Louise Ronsse in 1982. She preceded him in death in 1994.

Surviving are his two daughters, Sharon I. Pierce and her husband, Michael, Prescott, Ariz., and Candace A. Davis, Purdy, Mo.; two sisters, Helen June Thompson, Rossville, and Linda Korcal, Bullhead City, Ariz; and one brother, Joseph Davis, St. Marys; and Louise's children, Frank Ronsse, Peter Ronsse, Dennis Ronsse, Judith Pryor and Marian Sweeney.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rossville Christian Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Davis will lie in state from 2 until 6 p.m. Friday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville and after 6:30 p.m. at Rossville Christian Church. The family will receive friends there from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
