Everard "Ev" Freeman Alden was the son of Samuel E. Alden and Mary Adeline Baker of Worcester County, Massachusetts. The family relocated to South Dakota in the 1880s, finally settling in Faulk County. Everard married Ida Mary Spencer at Ipswich, Edmunds County, in 1886. Their children were: Mary Adeline, Everard Roderic "Skip", John "Jack", and Arthur Freeman "Tex".

In 1911 Ev and Ida Mary went west to Perkins County, homesteading near the Moreau River. They later moved to Faith where they spent the remaining years of their lives. Ev was a Deputy Sheriff in Meade County for a period of time.
