Grace was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Taylor. She was born about 1797 in South Carolina.

Grace married Lewis Wells, Jr., son of Revolutionary War soldier, Lewis Wells, Sr.

Lewis and Grace probably married about 1816 in Jackson County, Illinois. At that time, Perry County was still part of Jackson County. Unfortunately, the Jackson County marriage records prior to 1843 have been destroyed, making it impossible to verify the marriage in the public record.

McElvain Cemetery Records show that Grace is buried near her parents and her brother, all in a row. Her parents, Thomas and Mary Taylor, are buried in Lot a6, her brother, William Taylor, is buried in a7. Grace is buried in a8. The plot was owned by Lewis Wells, and her headstone identifies her as the wife of Lewis Wells.

Grace and Lewis were the parents of several children, inclding: Pelisha, Lewis III, Leonard, Adaline, Ferdinand and Mary Elizabeth.
