Ezra S. Pierce was born in New York State. One source says Saratoga, New York and other sources have him born in Chautauqua Co., New York and Warren Co., Pennsylvania. When he was a young man he did live in Warren and Crawford Counties in Pennsylvania and joined the Army during the Civil War enlisting with Co. "B" 12th Regiment PA. Cavalry. He raised his rank to Quartermaster Sergeant. Ezra married Lavina Amanda Hotchkiss of Crawford County, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1859. In September of 1882 Ezra removed to Burleigh County, North Dakota locating on a homestead seven miles from Bismarck.He later moved to Bismarck City and resided there until his death. For several years he was in the Contracting business building several of Bismarck's homes and businesses. In politics he was a Republican and served the city of Bismarck as Justice Of The Peace for the last twelve years of his life. He was a member of the McCabe Methodist Episcopal Church and was one of it's charter members. At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of the church board. He was survived by his wife, son, Luther E. Pierce and two Grand-daughter's, Lelia and Bertha Pierce.
