Sarah Waldsmith (Young) Bovard was the daughter of Abner and Jane (Waldsmith) Young. She was the niece of Brigham Young, of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. She was the 1st wife of Pvt. James W. Bovard. They were married Alpha, Scott Co., Indiana February 29, 1844. Six of their sons became ordained Methodist Episcopal ministers.
