He was born in Duluth on Aug. 23, 1934 to James and Pearl Fitzsimmons and was a 1952 graduate of Cathedral High School.
He married Mary Ann LaFlamme in Duluth on June 4, 1955. James had worked at Como Oil for 38 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 6783.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann; children, Steve (Carole), Eden Prairie, Jim (Wendy), Mahtomedi, Cathy (Larry) Deeney, Plymouth, Minn., Gary (Kris) Champlain, Minn., Scott (Sue) Duluth, Anne (Dave) Thoreson, Duluth; sisters, Doris Lee, Dorothy Fitzsimmons, Geraldine Ciesla and Shirley (Roger) Dahl, all of Duluth; and 18 grandchildren.
VISITATION: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 2410 Morris Thomas Road, Duluth. Visitation continues Monday 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Lawrence. Burial at Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.
