John came to Kerr County, Texas with his parents in December 1857. John D.'s cattlebrand was "J2" and was registered in Kerr in 1866. He served in the Civil War and later received a pension (#14303). After the war he was a freighter, cattle driver and later a farmer. John and his wife Rachel Kyle (McCarty) had 12) children that were born in Kerr County, Texas. They later lived in Deming, New Mexico and in their later years in Oklahoma where they both died.
