W. H. CULPEPPER, YOUNGEST GRAY VET, DIES AT 97
Col. W. H. Culpepper, youngest of the remaining Georgians who fought in the War Between the States, died yesterday morning at the Confederate Soldiers' Home in Atlanta. He was 97. His death reduces the number of Georgia veterans to six.
Born in Mitchell County, col. Culpepper entered the Army in 1864, when he was only 15. He served in Company I of the Twelfth Regiment of the Georgia Militia until his discharge in 1865.
After his release from the Army, he returned to Camilla and was active in business and church affairs until 10 years ago when he came to live in the Home.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. T. B. Twitty, Sr., of Camilla.
Funeral services and burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Camilla.
