Mrs. Maria Josefa Alvarez Miro must be born on 1883 because she passed away on 1907 at the age of 24 years while she was delivering her baby. Her Husband, named Vicente Gonzalez, after the terrible lost of his beloved wife decided to order a marble statue to an Italian sculptor but so far his name is unknown . The statue in her memorial is named "The Sleeping Beauty", represents a young and beautiful woman sleeping, with three White Poppy buds( papaver somniferum). Poppies have long been used as a symbol of both sleep and death: sleep because of the opium extracted from them, and death because of their (commonly) blood-red color although the common color in Italy is white. In Greco-Roman myths, poppies were used as offerings to the dead and to symbolize eternal sleep. There is a similar statue called "the Anguish of Bereavement" made by the Italian sculptor Saccomanno on the Monument that belongs to Erba Family in The Staglieno Cementery, Genova, Italy.
Many persons in Cienfuegos, Cuba believe she made miracles.
