George was the ninth of eleven children born to Caroline Catherine (Ginneman) and Richard Thomas Snouffer. He married Minnie M. Matthews in 1919 in Mayo, NC and settled in Greensboro where they ran a general store. Together they had nine children: Helen, Charles Richard, Evelyn, William Winfield, Ruby M., Geraldine, Gladys Virginia, Ruth Ann and Esther Fay.
