Elfriede Weiler was born on May 31, 1908 in Koeln (Cologne), Germany. She the daughter of Katharina "Kate" (Weiler) Moll. She spent much of her childhood in Niedermendig, Kreis Mayen, bei Koblenz, living with her grandparents Peter Weiler and Maria (Berg) Weiler. Elfriede was married to Peter Wilhelm Gemein, who was a soldier in the German army. He went missing and was presumed to have died on the Russian front in World War II. Elfriede and Peter had one son Karl-Heinz Gemein, who survived both his parents. Elfriede was also survived by her mother, her uncle Jean Weiler, her aunts Elisabeth (Weiler) Schulte and Anna Maria (Weiler) Aust, and cousins Ilse (Weiler) Watrelot and Rose Marie (Aust) Losee. Elfriede died on March 13, 1966, and was buried in the main cemetery in Niedermendig.
