The Funeral Of Byron D. Kline, 93, of LeRoy, a retired farmer, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, the Rev. Ronald F. Rosenau officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy, where graveside military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Kline died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 29, 1989) at Jackson Heights Nursing Home, Farmer City. He was born Feb. 20, 1895, in Richland, Kan., a son of Harry and Demaris Dooley Kline. He married Irene Roop on May 28, 1918, in Lexington. She died Nov. 27, 1979. Survivors include three sons, Robert L., Harry B., and John E., all of LeRoy; one daughter, Eleanor Ann Fox, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Ellen Jefferson, San Diego, Calif., and Katharine Harris, Riverside, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandson. One brother and three infant grandchildren preceded him in death.
Mr. Kline was an avid breeder of registered Hereford cattle and Percheron horses. He and his brother also raised mule colts. He was the last surviving World War I veteran from the LeRoy area and had served in England and France. Mr. Kline was a member of the LeRoy Presbyterian Church, past president and member of the McLean County Farm Bureau, and a 70-year member of LeRoy Masonic Lodge 221. He was also a member of the Bloomington Consistory, LeRoy Historical Society, past president and member of the LeRoy Kiwanis Club, and past commander and member of the Ruel Neal American Legion of LeRoy. A former president of the LeRoy Fair, he was a member of the board of directors and past president of the Old Producers' Stockyards in Bloomington.
