Mary Carlson, 'Stamp Lady' to Children, Dies

Mrs. Mary Edwina Carlson, 54, known to countless crippled and confined children as "Our Mary, the Stamp Lady," died Sunday.

A resident of 6116 Ashcroft avenue, Edina, Mrs. Carlson began collecting stamps in 1948.

Stamps were sent to her from all over the United States and Canada. She distributed them at Shriners hospitals, Gillette hospital, Catholic Boys Home, State School for Boys at Owatonna and Kenny Institute.

She also was a frequent distributor of candy and toys.

Mrs. Carlson was born at Denmark, Iowa, and had lived in Minneapolis since 1910. For 26 years she was an employe of Western Union.

She was a member of Mistletoe court No. 11, Order of Amaranth; Zuhrah women's auxiliary to Shriners hospital, and Ladies of the Moose.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert O. Carlson, and a sister, Mrs. Fern Cadwell, Mora, Minn.
