Mary Jane Prater was born in Piney Fork Township, Sharp County, Arkansas, Jan 15, 1980 to Ning P. & Alice F. Prater.
At age 16 she married Charles W. Baker (the son of Jessie & Luticia Gibbs Baker) in 1896. She was first married to My Grandfather, Charles W. Baker (from 1896 until his death about 1906). I have attached 3 pictures. 1 picture of Mary Jane Baker & Charles W Baker, 1 picture of Janie & children Rhoda & John W. Baker, and 1 picture of the new headstone that we placed on her grave on Sept 30, 2009. We have no pictures of Janie & John Shaw, whom she married after the death of John Baker. They had two children - John W. and Rhoda. Charles Baker died about 1906 . We were told that he died in a hotel in Ardmore while waiting to testify in a cattle rustling trial - but we can find no official record of his death or where he was buried.

Mary Jane's children both died before she did. Rhoda Baker McHenry died in 1947. She and her husband John McHenry are buried next to Mary Jane & John Shaw in Elmwood cemetery. John Baker died in 1949. He and my mother Virgie Mae Smith Baker are buried in Canon City, Colorado.
