Wiley Combest married Sarah "Sallie" Hammond in Pulaski County, Kentucky on 29 September, 1836. Sallie Hammond was born in Kentucky to Squire John Hammond, a slaveholder of Pulaski County, Kentucky. Sallie Hammond Combest died after the birth of her third child in 1840 and, according to tradition, Wiley married her sister, Martha Hammond. Martha was born around 1828. It appears that Martha died also, as she is not recorded in the 1860 Russell County, Kentucky Census with the family of Wiley Combest. Family tradition also states that Wiley married a third time to Mary Roy.
