BOONSBORO - James Robert Alder, 72, of 8513 Old National Pike, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at his home.
Born Sept. 22, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert Henson and Mary Ellen Kreps Alder.
He was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Jamison Door Co., Hagerstown, until his retirement in 1981, after 39 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a 50-year member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 340 and the W.D. Byron VFW Post 1936, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Olive J. Baker Alder, whom he married June 26, 1954; five sisters, M. Irene Swartz, Mary Catherine Morningstar, Ruth E. Semler, Jane J. Rock, and Helen Brashears, all of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances V. Hoover and two brothers, Thomas E. Alder and William H. Alder.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Benevola United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Helen S. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
