Luella Pauline Auvil, 72, a 43-year East Wenatchee resident, passed away at her home on Friday morning, Oct. 25, 2002.
She was born on Sept. 18, 1930, at Brock, NE, to Paul Sr. and Lula Mae (Mortimore) Maxey. She was raised and began her schooling at Brock prior to the family moving to Wenatchee in 1936. She attended school in Wenatchee and later went to work as a sales clerk for Newberry's in Wenatchee.
On Dec. 2, 1950, she was married to Oliver "Ollie" Auvil in East Wenatchee. They made their home in Wenatchee until moving to East Wenatchee in 1959. She worked seasonally in the fruit sheds and later worked at Tree Top before going to work as a sales clerk at Stans Merry Mart. She worked at Stans for over 10 years before going to work at the St. Vincent de Paul store in Wenatchee. She remained there for four years before retiring in the late 1980s. They continued to make their home in East Wenatchee, where she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver, on July 5, 2001.
Luella was a former member of the Wenatchee Aerie #204 F.O.E. She especially enjoyed crafting, sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, pillow-making and cooking. She also loved gambling and playing bingo.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bobbie and Gloria Auvil, Wenatchee; one daughter, Laura Fontillas, East Wenatchee; one brother, Paul Maxey, Jr., Wenatchee; one sister, Audrey Ball, Wenatchee; three grandchildren, Micheal Auvil, Yakima, Tiffany Auvil, Seattle, and Paula Auvil, California; two step-grandchildren, Mark Trefry and David Trefry both of Wenatchee; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oliver, and one brother, LeRoy Maxey in August of 1996.
Commemoration Services will be held at the graveside in Wenatchee Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
