TRENTON, S.C. - Mrs. Sophronia Waesche Hunt Barbaro, widow of the late RADM Joseph R. Barbaro, USN, (ret.), died Monday, December 5th, 2005 at the age of 89 at the home of her son in Trenton, SC. She was also the widow of the late CAPT Ralph Baile Hunt, USN (ret.). Mrs. Barbaro, who was born at "Rose Lawn", the Waesche family home in Mitchellville, MD, attended McKinley Tech High School, Strayer Business College and George Washington University in the District of Columbia. She lived in Alexandria, VA since 1945 where she was active in various church, school and civic affairs. She was a member and past president of the Beverley Hills Women's Club and served on the official board of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was active in Boy and Girl Scouts and, during World War II, she served as a Red Cross Volunteer Nurse's Aide. She was a member of the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA and the Army-Navy Club in Washington, D. C. Survivors include sons, Ralph W. Hunt of San Marcos, CA and CAPT William B. Hunt, USN, (ret.) of Trenton, SC; daughter, Jane Hunt Kieninger of Cincinnati, OH; step-son, Joseph H. Barbaro of Orlando, FL; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 5pm on Wed. December 7th at Johnston United Methodist Church, Johnston, SC. The family will receive friends in the church social hall from 4pm until commencement of service. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 N. Randolph St. Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22303. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].
