They had three daughters: Doris Jean (born 1926), Melba Ray (born 1936), and Lavonne Gayle (born 1940).
During their married life, Herman and Lucille lived in Nimrod, Pleasant Hill, and Cisco. Herman was a farmer and rancher during that time. They also owned a grocery store/service station in Pleasant Hill from 1941 to 1944. He then worked for an oil company as a pumper for several years, and at one time was a barber. They moved to Cisco in 1945 and bought the city block and house at 1500 Avenue L. He continued to ranch and farm the property around Nimrod that had once belonged to both their parents. L.D. Stanaford had owned this same property from 1889 to 1912. It was bought by Archie E. Harrelson in 1912.
Lucille was a housewife and mother, and later a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved quilt-making and crocheting. She also worked 20 years for the Cisco Independent School District as the supervisor of the school cafeterias. She retired in 1971.
The Harrelson's celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 21, 1973, in their home in Cisco. It was attended by their family and close friends. Herman died a year later on November 16, 1974 at the age of 74. Lucille continued living at 1500 Avenue L. until her health began to fail, forcing her to move into the Cisco nursing home on September 30, 1985. She died in Abilene on March 21 1989. Both are buried in the Nimrod Cemetery along with their parents.
