Elbert Marion Rucker of the Ruckersville community died Thursday afternoon at he Elberton-Elbert County Hospital after one year of declining health and one week of serious illness. He lived all of his life in Elbert County and was a son of the late Kenelm Earle Rucker and Willie Vickery Rucker. He was Operations Officer for the Southeastern Power Adminstration, a veteran of World War II and was a retired Colonel in the Georgia National Guard and was a member of the VFW, the Elberton Elks Lodge #1100 and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include one son, Elbert M Rucker Jr of Elberton; three daughters, Mrs Lee Hendry of Washington, Miss Ginny Rucker and Miss Cindy Rucker of Elberton; two brothers, Kenelm E Rucker of Elberton and Byron T Rucker of Endicott NY; one sister, Mrs Willena Blackstock of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm at the Chapel of the Hicks Funeral Home. Rev Lawrence Johnson officiated. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Jones, John Mixon, Alvin Christian, Joel Seymour, Harry Wright and Larry Yarborough.
