Mary E Cushing came from a large extended Cushing family on Long Island. She married George Washington Witham,DDS on Great Chebeague Island on June 12, 1872. They lived in Guilford, Maine when Dr. Witham succumbed to a cerebral hemmorhage. Subsequently Mary moved back to Long Island from Guilford with her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in about 1906 to care for her widowed mother, Anne Cushing. In later years she lived in Portland with her daughter Eva and granddaughter Melba.
