James P. Lamont, first burgess of Nant-y-Glo borough and for a number of years a picturesque figure 'n Cambria county political and business circles, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon in Altoona.
His health ad been impaired for the last two years, following an attack of pneumonia, but his condition became critical only within the last few days.
"Jim" Lamont, as he was known to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances made a stirring but unsuccessful fight for the Republican nomination for sheriff of Cambria
county in 1921. He was defeated by Logan M. Keller, former Johnstown fire chief and present member of the Cambria board of county commissioners, Lamont was elected burgess of Nant-y-Glo 'when the town was incorporated and served for eight years, A native of Cambria county, James P. Lamont was born at Amsbry 42 years ago, on June 17, 1891. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs, Reynold Lamont, his mother's death having occurred within the last year or so.Surviving brothers and sisters are: Thomas Lamont of Patton; William Lamont, well-known mine superintendent at Bakerton, and Reynold Lamont Jr., of N'ant-y-Glo; Mrs. Frank Callen of Nant-y-Glo, Mrs. Elizabeth McDermott of Nanty- Glo and Mrs. Frank Mulvehill of Johnstown.
He is also survived by his widow,who before their marriage was Miss Mary Lynch of Nant-y-Glo and two children, Leo and Bemadine. James P. Lamont was for a number of years engaged in the hotel business in Nant-y-Glo, After disposing
of his interests there he was for a time a resident of Johnstown and later removed to Altoona.

FORMER WELL KNOWN NANTY-GLO MAN PASSES AFTER ACTIVE CAREER


James P. Lamont, former well known Nanty-Glo citizen, died in Altoona, Tuesday afternoon, where he and his family have been living for the past several years. His health had been impaired for a few years back but his condition became critical only a few days ago. "Jim" Lamont as he was familiarly known, was a active figure in business, political and sporting circles of Nanty-Glo and Cambria county for a number of years. When Nanty-Glo became a borough he was elected the first burgess, serving one full term. In 1921 he made an aggressive campaign for the Republican nomination as sheriff but was defeated in the primary. The deceased was born at Coupon, Cambria county on June 17, 1891, being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Reynold Lamont who later came to Nanty-Glo with their family. Three brothers and three sisters survive- Thomas Lamont of Patton, William Lamont of Bakerton, Mrs. Frank Callen, Mrs. Elizabeth McDermott and Ronald Lamont of Nanty-Glo, and Mrs. Frank Mulvehill of Johnstown. He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary (Lynch) Lamont and two children. Leo and Bernadine. Funeral services were held in Our Lady of Lourdes church in Altoona at 9 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. Father Farren conducting the requiem mass. Burial was in Holy Name Catholic cemetery at Ebensburg, Rev. Father Marcinek of Nanty-Glo officiating at the grave.
