Dysart Barnes, 89, of Columbia died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Lake Charles, La.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Little Bonne Femme Baptist Church with the Revs. Bart Tichenor and Randall Germann officiating. Burial will be in Barnes Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Parker Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Barnes was born June 29, 1907, to David Lee and Maria Catherine Conner Barnes in Boone County.


He married Barthena Lucy Allen on Aug. 4, 1939, in Columbia, and she survives.


He graduated from Columbia High School in 1926. He was a farmer all of his life, drove school buses for Deer Park and New Haven schools, and also served on the school boards of both Barnes and New Haven school districts. He attended Little Bonne Femme Baptist Church and also worked at the University of Missouri-Columbia as a custodian for 10 years until retiring in 1976.


Survivors also include three daughters, Marjorie Marberry of Columbia, Kathryn Scheidt of South Bend, Ind., and Ann Davidson of Lake Charles, La.; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Barnes Cemetery Association, in care of Jim Marberry, 1316 S. Victoria Drive, Columbia, Mo., 65201 or in care of Parker Funeral Service.
