John was born in Ohio to Hap and Lenayah King, and lived in Scappoose until recently moving to Bonanza.
He enjoyed basketball, soccer, and golf, and was an avid comic book collector. He also enjoyed the beach. He had just returned from a fishing trip to Alaska with his father where he caught a 30-and 45-pound halibut.
John attended school at Portland Christian Elementary and was an honor student at Faith Bible Christian Junior High School in Aloha. He had started high school at Hosanna Christian School in Klamath Falls one day before his accident.
He attended First Baptist Church of Scappoose and enjoyed working with the sound system and working with children in vacation Bible school programs. His most recent accomplishment before moving to the Klamath Falls area was to earn a ham radio operator's license.
Survivors include his parents, Hap and Lenayah King; brother, James S. King; sisters, Dawna and Alisha King, all Bonanza; grandparents, Everin and Dorothy Christensen, Hillsboro, Faris S. King, Sr., Bonanza; great-grandfather, Lloyd George, Beaverton; and numerous aunts and uncles.
