Quebec Politician. A native of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Mercier was admitted to the bar in 1900. In 1907 he was elected to Quebec's Legislative Assembly representing the Châteauguay District serving briefly until early 1908. In December 1908, he was re-elected to the seat where he would serve until 1936. In 1914 he was appointed Minister of Colonization, Mines and Fisheries on the cabinet of Quebec Premier Lomer Gouin, In 1919 he was appointed Minister of Lands and Forests, a post he held until 1936 in both the cabinets of Premiers Gouin and Alexandre Taschereau. He is the son of Quebec Premier Honoré Mercier, brother-in-law of Quebec Premier Lomer Gouin, and father of Quebec legislator Honoré Mercier III.
