Death of Squire Larkin

Cowley county was bereft of a respected citizen yesterday in the death of Squire Nelson J. Larkin, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.D. Givler, at Atlanta. The news brought to Winfield late yesterday afternoon, was told in hushed whispers and cast a spell of gloom, for Squire Larkin was a town character, revered and loved throughout the community for thirty-eight years and to everyone his death came as a personal loss. He was eighty-nine years old and had been failing fast for the past few months. Mrs. Chapin, his Winfield daughter, and Mrs. Anderson, of Hackney, were called to the bedside last week and surrounded by his loved ones he set his house in order and crossed the River Styx, the end coming at noon day yesterday.

Three children survive: Mrs. E.R. Chapin, Winfield, Mrs. R.W. Anderson, Hackney, and Mrs. T.D. Givler, Atlanta.

The funeral was held at the Givler home this morning at eleven o'clock. The funeral cortage came to Winfield this afternoon and the body will lay in state at the Chapin home until tomorrow. The Masons will have charge of the last services at one o'clock tomorrow and interment will be made in Hackney cemetery.
