Clem was the son of Edwin L and Amanda (Etter) Light. He was one of the first children to be in the Richland County, Ohio, children's orphanage. He was approximately 7 years old when he first went there.
Clem married Sarah (Aumend) Foster on 6 Sep 1906 in Shelby, Ohio. Sarah had three children (Grace, Royal, and George Foster) by her previous husband, Charley Foster. Clem helped her raise those children and then she died in 1927. Clem then married Myrtle Nineva Myer on 20 Oct 1928 in Huron County, Ohio. She had one daughter, Wanda May Myer, whom Clem raised as his own also. Myrtle and Clem had 7 children (Arabelle, Roland, Carrie, Helen, Harry, Clifton and Clement).
