Published obituary
Joseph Abrew, 70, former Pacific Coast welterweight boxing champion and a retired P G & E lineman, died today in his home at 725 S Del Mar.

A lineman for thirty-eight years, Mr Abrew retired from the P G & E in 1958 to direct the construction of Thailand's first electric transmission system.

While in Thailand, Mr Abrew braved monsoon rains, deadly cobras, and armed bandits while overseeing the 102-mile transmission line construction.

Mr Abrew spent two years in Southeast Asia and returned home in 1960. He was active here in the Morning Star Lodge of Masons. Born in Hawaii, Mr Abrew lived in Stockton forty-six years.

Surviving Mr Abrew are his wife, Henrietta; a son, Byron of New York City; two daughters, Mrs Mildred Calderon of Antioch, and Mrs Josephine Jackson of Lakehead; seven sisters, Mrs Mary Souza, Mrs Julia Costule, Mrs Mabel Clayton, Mrs Charlotte Morgan, Mrs Olivia Frenn, and Mrs Edith Eddy, all of the San Francisco Bay Area, and Mrs Lucile Beers of Petaluma; and two brothers, Daniel of the Bay Area, and Ted Abrew of the US Navy.

Funeral services are pending at the chapel of Frisbie and Warren.
