Jonas Barber, also known as John or Johnny Barber. Our loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on March 18, 2009 at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica. He was surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis; his son, Larry Barber; daughter, Susan Boyer; and five grandchildren.

Born in Amsterdam, Holland on February 17, 1926. Son of Levi and Eva Barber and brother of Greta.

He immigrated with his family at the age of ten to South Africa, escaping the Nazi regime on one of the last boats out of Holland. An absolute survivor, he was one of the 5000 Dutch Jews that made it out of Amsterdam.

Financial hardship forced him to enter the work force at the age of 14 in a diamond cutting factory. This began his love of being a jeweler. His hard work, integrity, and good word were instrumental in his business success and brought him a lot of respect amongst his peers. He will be greatly missed by all.

The Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Mount Sinai - Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills.
Reception to follow at the residence of Jonas and Phyllis Barber.
