Major Royal Olmsted passed to the better life June 17, at 1030 am at Woodcraft sanitarium, Pueblo, Co. The remains were accompanied to Colorado Springs, his home, by his wife, where they were consigned to the bosom of Mother Earth, June 20 at 3:30pm at Evergreen cemetery. The funeral services where under the auspices of the G. A. R. and L. G. A. R. the major being a member of both. The religious services were conducted by Ref. Leonard, the Unitarian pastor. Pall bearers were sons of veterans and comrades acted as honorary pall bearers. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The remains were enclosed in a beautiful steel casket. The Loyal Legion furnished the firing squad and the bugler.

Major Olmsted was born Sept 7, 1837, and was 83 years of age at the time of his death. He was married Feb 20, 1866, to Amanda Townsend (remarried to Carse) near Henry, Il. Four children were born to this union, two having preceded their father to the better life, Johnnie in infancy and Mrs. Emily Pace of Henry.
He had been a great sufferer for about 12 years. On Aug 25, 1920, he was taken to Woodcraft sanitarium, a private institution for treatment. For a time, he seemed to improve, but arterial heart trouble developed, causing his death.
Major Olmsted enlisted in Peoria, Il. Aug 16, 1861 in the 47th Il Infantry vol under Col Boyner, served 4 1/2 years. he was an honest, upright man, true to himself, his family, and his country.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Croft of Nardin, Ok and one son, J. Edwin Olmsted of Colorado Springs, Col.
