Lessie Heath Barber

Mrs. Lessie Heath Barber, 95, passed away Thursday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Greene County, she was born Nov. 21, 1912, the daughter of John Exum Heath and Mary Elizabeth Wooten Heath.

Mrs. Barber was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church in Greene County, the church in which she was raised and where she met her late husband, James Henry Barber, who preceded her in death in 1957. She lived most of her adult life in Goldsboro and retired from Belk's where she was a seamstress.

Her surviving family includes her children, Jimmy Barber Jr. and wife, Gwendolyn of Goldsboro, Dan Barber and wife, Diane of Winston-Salem and Judy Barber Crow and husband, Gene of New Bern; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Marshall Barber.
