Born August 4, 1899 in Hext, TX, to Thomas Washington and Matilda Jane (Brazil) Gage. Pastor Gage attended Yale university, Harvard University, and Hardin-Simmons University. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWI and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rule, TX. The Rev Gage married Susan A. Scifres on April 7, 1934 in Benjamin, TX and was a missionary pastor for 53 years in the states of Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, New Mexico, Oklahoma, California and Texas. The Reverend Gage retired to Rule, TX in 1967.
He was survived by his wife; one daughter: Mrs. Darlene Ann (Gage) McDaniel of Joaquin, TX; one son: James Harold Gage of Bogota, Columbia; one son-in-law: Harrell L. Vest; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Margie Eloise Vest, who died in 1966.
Services were at Calvary Baptist Church in Rule, TX. The Reverend Danny Johnson, the Reverend Randolph Wilson, pastor of Haskell Baptist, and The Reverend J.R. Williams, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Rule, TX, officiated. Burial followed in the Rule Cemetery as directed by Smith Funeral Home.
