ROBERT ALEXANDER DOWELL OBITUARY
Robert Alexander Dowell was born in Smith County, Tennessee, October 29, 1837, and died at Wellsford, Kansas, April 11, 1917, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 12 days.
In early life he moved to Kentucky, where on November 11, 1857, he was united in marriage to Mary Eliza HILL. To this union eight children were born and seven of whom are still living and present on this occasion: Mrs. Martha E. YOUNG of Wellsford; Mrs. Mary E. ELDER of Coeur de Alene, Idaho; Willis E. DOWELL of Tolu, Kentucky; Robert E. DOWELL of Hutchinson, Kan.; Mrs. Lydia E. HOPPER of Syervia, Kan.; Frank E. DOWELL of Wellsford; and Mrs. Etta D. WOODS of Wichita, Kan.
Judge Dowell, as he was familiarly known, came to Kansas in 1884 and settled in this community, where he has since resided.
Mrs. Dowell died in July 1907 and in November 1908 he was united in marriage to Millie E. DUGAN who with his surviving children, many relatives and friends, now mourn his death.
While a young man he united with the Baptist church, of which organization he was a member at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held at the late r4esidence, Saturday, afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. F.H. Poore, an old friend of the family, assisted by the Rev. C. H. Coppedge of Wellsford.
The burial tributes were many and beautiful and a large course of sorrowing friends were present.
Interment was made in the Haviland Cemetery-
